Task one- six rehearsal log progression/improvement
Within this blog post I will be linking back to my six the musical rehearsal log and going over each of the numbers I was in and saying how I feel I improved over the course of all of my rehearsals from start to finish.
Progress/improvement -
Ex - Wives
Personally I feel that after looking back on the first videos of rehearsing this number I can confidently say I have made a huge improvement on this opening number. At the beginning of the number we strike poses of the words 'divorced, beheaded, died' etc., I feel that in the final rehearsals of this section my positions where much stronger and in time with the other dancers, same for the improvised poses we do after this section. The poses I did during the very first rehearsal looked weak and unfinished and I didn’t really have a set routine of poses , I also heavily lacked facial expression (see first video on blog). However after Comparing them to my final rehearsals I can say that the poses are much sassier and overall stronger in general. I also noticed that my energy throughout had majorly improved during this number. After knowing the choreography perfectly, I now had to work on my timing, especially for the dance breaks as this is what I really struggled to keep in time on as everyone was going at different times. In the first rehearsals of this number, it is evident that I was unsure of the timing during the first and final dance break during this number. After taking some time and asking teachers and peers, I understood the timing by the dress rehearsal as it was something I was struggling with. After knowing the timing, I was able to fully immerse myself in these dance breaks and make my movements strong, incorporate my dynamics and to include a heavy amount of characterization during these fast and upbeat sections. Overall, I can see a huge difference in my performance of this number, focusing in on my characterization and overall, just finishing each movement, using my whole body/energy to complete this first dance.
Get down
I feel that the first rehearsal of get down I was struggling with the timing and my spacing as I had two people either side of me and I was worried we were going to clash when doing spins and Other dance moves. After a lot of rehearsals and going over this number I was fully confident with the section I was in. Being placed at the front of the number, I knew I needed to use my facial expressions to portray the sass of this song and choreography. This dance was personally one of my favorites because of the hip hop, less musical theatre style choreography. I was able to use different facial expressions for this number to portray and communicate the style of dance and also the nature of the queen we were all portraying, I feel I reacted to queen anna of Cleves very well and was very sassy throughout.
House of Holbein
After rewatching my rehearsals of house of holbein, I can confirm that my characterization was not fully there. I was focusing more on the fast-paced movement over the performance of it and struggling to keep my breathe control stable the whole way through so was also not singing all of the sing. I would forget changes made and was often getting the gestures wrong. After rehearsing over and over I can say that this changed. I understood the fast-paced timing and was now able to add my own flare and touches to this number, I really enjoyed performing this number purely because it’s very different to all of the others the number is very enjoyable and crazy compared to all of the others as they tell more of an upsetting story to each one of the queens. I was fully using my over exaugurated facial expressions and after time, over exaggerating my movements, using and upright strong posture and maintain it through out to really be able to portray the energy and humor of this dance.
Heart of stone -
Although I only sing a very small section during this song and don’t really have very much video evidence, I still believe that I really improved throughout this number. I feel at the beginning if rehearsals I didn’t really know what to do and felt a little awkward as all I had to do was stand on the stage as move my arms out on certain words and sing however after some more rehearsals on this I started to add more and more to my actions and facial expressions I understood that this is a really heartfelt song and very touchy and I as a participant still need to show that throughout as it’s Jane Seymour’s story of Henry and how she was treated. I feel in the last couple of rehearsals I managed to portray this emotion during this song whether that be through my facial expression or body language.
Six-
Six is the ending number of six the musical and I feel this song is an amazing way to end the show on a positive note.it was a lovely feeling to perform This song last it’s a very upbeat and enjoyable song that brings everyone together at the end of the show. I feel I improved a lot during this my character carried on building each time we performed this number. Towards the end of rehearsals a couple of days before the show all of the spacing and places had changed for this number which i really struggled with because through all the rehearsals I was so used to being in one spot throughout and then I got changed to multiple different spots which I had to then remember so I was prepared for the show and knew where I was supposed to be at all times. I feel I dealt with this very well and was good at remembering all of my places.
Well done, what are your targets for the next task dance? what do you want to improve?
